CHILI SUPPER and AUCTION RESULTS
Saturday evening November 4, 2006 Harlem Road Church held its annual Chili Dinner and Auction.
The event, netting $4,000 from donations and the sale of crafts and merchandise donated by members of the church,
served as a fund raiser for the youth in the congregation for their part in raising money for our church´s current
expansion project.
Pictured above are auctioneer Richard Helwig (Helwig Auction Service), who donated his time for the auction and congregation-member Judy Sharpe-Kosmatka
(our own Vanna White) who emceed the event.

Manning the kitchen preparation of the chili dinner for those who attended are Kevin Schaublin, Logan Hall, Nick Keller and with Kevin McMains in the front.

Girl Scout Troop #1569
- Leaders
Karen Dodson 740-965-4800 and
Jeanna Burrell 740-965-1914
- We meet at Harlem Road Church on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 6:45-8:00 PM.
- We are a Junior Girl Scout troop with girls in 5th and 6th grades.
- We are members of the Big Walnut Service Unit of Seal of Ohio Girl Scouts.
- Five girls from Troop 1569 completed the last phase of their Girl Scout Bronze Award on August 15. They delivered school supplies to Lutheran Social Services in Caldwell, OH. These school supplies will be used by families that have been displaced to Ohio from New Orleans (and other areas affected by Katrina), as well as other local citizens in need. Through their efforts of fund-raising, a $100 donation from Meijer and other monetary and material donations, they supplied over $650 worth of goods. They are: Grace Linnea, Tessa, Jenni and Jessica.
- We´ve planned a lot of fun activities for the fall/winter. See our newsletter! We are also beginning to plan a summer trip to the Michigan Sand Dunes. In addition to using some of our cookie money, the girls will be planning additional fundraisers for this activity.
- It´s time for cookies. If you would like to order, please contact Karen or Jeanna (email above). We also have 2007 Girl Scout Calendars left. It´s not too late to purchase one for the bargain price of $2. Just contact any troop member or leader.
- Volunteers from Harlem Road Church are leading several girls through the God and Family Award program. This will conclude sometime in February.

Collegiate Ministry
I'm asking each and every one of you to consider a gaping hole and void in our ministries at Harlem Road U.M.C. For some time I've been thinking about the significant number of College Age souls we have in our church. God has blessed us with a wonderful group of young people who faithfully return to church each opportunity they get to be back home from college. There are a number of them who are here weekly...and then from time to time... holidays, summer, breaks, etc., there is even a larger group. Most of these young folks already share a great bond and love to see each other when they are home.
However, because of their schedules we have not organized a ministry for this age group. I would envision an ongoing group; weekly for those who can attend and available and functioning when the larger group is home from college. Fellowship, Practical Bible Study, Peer Support and even Worship could be the primary functions of this group. It could also include some fun events for when they are gathered as the larger group. I think we can fill this void in our ministry and further, I think we must. God has blessed us with the Spiritual Care of these young folks and we need to begin to take that responsibility to heart.
The issue: We need an adult or an adult couple who has the passion for this age group to step forward to help organize such an effort. I am not asking anyone to take this on who already has responsibility of ministries here. Unless you are willing to give those up to accomplish this, I would rather that someone who isn't already using their gifts and talents in ministry to pray and consider leading up a College Age Ministry.
We at HRC must become effective at providing Spiritual nurturing of this age group of young men and women. If you can help us do that or if you have an interest but lots of questions,
please contact me.

Hylen Souders Elementary
HRC has adopted the children of Hylen Souders Elementary school. During the month of August
back to school supplies are collected and given to the children when they return to school.
We are also sponsoring a Sweatsuit Fund to purchase sweatsuits for needy children.
NEW!
HRC has entered into an agreement with the officials at Souders Elementary School to become a place of safe sanctuary in the event
of an emergency evacuation of the school. Pray it never happens! But should an event demand evacuation, suddenly the church would
provide temporary and safe housing for 500 elementary school children. I know we could do that if necessary for a few hours.
So if you get an email or phone call asking you to STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING hurry to the church and help us!

Sunbury Food Pantry

World Gospel Mission
HRC has adopted the World Gospel Mission and the Hawk Family who minister at Escuela El Sembrador
in Catacamas, Olancho Honduras. The school houses boys, ages 9-23, to teach them their
"three R´s" and a trade, but most importantly to teach them about the love that God and Jesus
have for each of them. HRC supports the work by traveling on-site to complete building projects,
and coming alongside the boys through sports and casual interaction. Several members of our
Church Family also sponsor boys by providing monthly financial support to their time at
El Sembrador. In all, we desire to show Christ's love to the Hawks and the boys at El Sembrador.
